Main Goal: I would like to lose some fat, but am trying to add muscle at the same time Best Features: I'm pretty good in the leg and hip area My Plan: I'm lifting weights and doing my best to control bad eating habits Motivation: Look better and be stronger Accomplishments: I can bench my body weight, and am no longer morbidly obese.
I've spent a long time in my life pretending that I am better off than I am. In 2005, I finally faced the fact that 280 lbs was far too much for someone to weigh (someone obviously lacking substantial muscle). I got into a diet program and was able to get down as low as 216 briefly. Although, I am back up to about 235, the lessons I've learned have helped greatly. At the beginning of 2008, I began to do weight training on a regular basis. I am exercising regularly, eating a bit better and am benefitting greatly from it. My chest is once again bigger around than my waist, I have some of the strength and energy of my youth back again. I have been sword fighting in a group called the Society for Creative Anachronism (SCA) for about 19 years now, and this is the sport activity that I am most focused on improving. My wife has also begun lifting with me, so I get to play a sort of low budget personal trainer. We are hoping to set an example for our daughter. We want her to grow up with the idea that healthy eating habits and regular exercise are a normal part of a person's life. I look forward to finding out how others approach the various challenges involved.
